Consummation: Renewal, Wholeness And God Being All in All
Reflection:
1 Corinthians 15:24-28:
24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.
Spend time meditating on this passage, the comprehensive nature of Jesus’ transformation and the certainty of his finishing the job well.
Prayers:
Now use this Scripture in your praying:
Give thanks to God that the future of the world is glorious with God transforming everything
Pray for our city Worcester and the surrounding area that it might taste some of the renewal and wholeness now
Pray for the places you know which are standing against Jesus and whose rulers need to be placed under his feet
Pray for City Church that we might begin to live the life of the future now as a witness to others
Listen:
Spend time listening to God for yourself and for City Church.
What is God saying to you personally through this passage of Scripture?
What kind of renewal and wholeness do your friends, work colleagues or neighbours need to experience and how can you reach out to them?
What picture of the end of the Big Story can City Church show to people now?
What missional projects could City Church engage in to point towards God’s making all things new?
Write down what God gives you!
Praise:
Praise God that one day his presence and authority will saturate all aspects of creation, leaving no sphere untouched by his dominion, glory, and holiness. Praise him that we can look forward to the time when the relational and spiritual fragmentation caused by human sin is fully healed, and God’s righteous rule is perfectly recognised everywhere.
