Dig Deeper by Nigel Beynon & Andrew Sach

“The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul;

the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;

the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;

the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;

the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;

sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.

Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.”

Psalm 19:7-11

Reading the Bible was something I knew I should do. A good habit I needed to get into. I have made countless resolutions to read my Bible more! I knew it was something I should treasure.

This book has transformed the way I read the Bible. Reading the Bible has gone from something I knew I should do, to something I look forward to. Dig Deeper has helped me to think and meditate on God’s word. It gave me the tools to understand the Bible and now I can honestly say that I treasure opening up God’s word. Now that I know how to understand God’s word, I can see how it refreshes my soul, rejoices my heart, enlightens my eyes and makes me wiser. What is more, God is shaping me to be more like Jesus. Just like Jesus prays in John 17:17: “Make them holy in the truth; your word is truth.”

This book is easy-to-read, easy to dip-in-and-out-of and works on a student’s budget! Each chapter contains a new ‘tool’ to help you understand the Bible. For example, the ‘Bible timeline tool’ which gets you to ask where this passage in the overarching timeline of the Bible is (just like what Alastair Cutteridge was talking to us about back in January). There are also worked examples and suggested passages to read to practise what you learn.
