Creation: God’s World, God’s Kingdom

Reflection:

Psalm 8:

1 LORD, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory

in the heavens.

2 Through the praise of children and infants

you have established a stronghold against your enemies,

to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens,

the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars,

which you have set in place,

4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,

human beings that you care for them?

5 You have made them a little lower than the angels

and crowned them with glory and honour.

6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;

you put everything under their feet:

7 all flocks and herds,

and the animals of the wild,

8 the birds in the sky,

and the fish in the sea,

all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 LORD, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Spend time meditating on this Psalm, the majesty of God’s name, the wonder and extent of his work and his role for human beings. As you will see, Psalm 8 is a meditation on Genesis 1.

Prayers:

Now use this Psalm in your praying:

  • Give thanks to God for his creation, his world.

  • Pray for our city Worcester and the surrounding area that it might be run well for the benefit of all.

  • Pray for the institutions: the city council, medical services, police, businesses, schools, the university that they might serve our communities well.

  • Pray for City Church people where they are that God might use them as his representatives, being his shapers and life-fillers.

Listen:

Spend time listening to God for yourself and for City Church.

  • What has God given you responsibility for?

  • Where and to whom is God wanting you to display his image?

  • How does God want City Church to respond as his representative in the City of Worcester? How does the Angel Centre fit in?

  • Where are the places that are formless and empty (Gen 1:2) and how does God want us to be part of his transformation?

Write down what God gives you!

Praise:

Praise God that he upholds and sustains our city and our world and that he calls us into his work as community transformers.
