The Power of Prayer
At the Foot of the Cross
Eph 3:18-21
And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love—how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is. Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with the fullness of God.
With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine. To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever. Amen.
Prayer Guide
Now is the time to pray daring, bold, big prayers. Because the power of prayer is not in us, but in God – who hears and answers prayers in his will, with his grace and in his timing
Spend some time thanking God for prayers he has answered for you, for your community and for your nation in the past.
Kneel before the cross in humility, confessing the things you’ve done wrong or good things you’ve left undone, admitting that you need God’s help. If you feel led, you might want to talk to God about bigger issues: things your community or your nation has gone wrong, things that you need God’s help to change.
Take time as you break off a piece of bread and pour out some “wine” and you reflect on the great magnitude of what Christ did on the cross. Reflect on what it means to be part of the body of Christ as City Church Worcester as we all break bread throughout today. Reflect on what it means to be part of the larger body of Christ around the globe as we all pray in unity this week.
Take a rock and dare to pray the big prayers, taking the rock to the foot of the cross. Prayers that you haven’t prayed before, or you stopped praying because you didn’t think they’d be answered.
Pray for God to be known in your life and the life of your nation in a completely new way: for his glory to be known in our Worcester community and shine out across the world!
When you truly know God, you have energy to serve Him, boldness to share Him, and contentment in Him. Our high and privileged calling is to do the will of God in the power of God for the glory of God. (J. I. Packer)
